ALMAVIVA

A joint venture by the Rothchild Family and Concha y Toro families. Started in 1996 when Baron Philippe de Rothschild set out to look for the best vineyard in Chile to produce a Chilean Caberent based wine to sit alongside the very best classified wines in Bordeaux. The site he found is Puente Alto, a vineyard right in the heart of Santiago, in fact, driving to it we were sure we had gone the wrong way, it is so much in the centre of the city. The vineyard had for many years been in the Concha y Toro family, they formed a joint venture to establish Almaviva. The winery is run separately to Concha and is one of the icon premium wines from Chile. The label takes the inspiration from a Mapuche drum, the two circles top and bottom signal the two families, the four corners, the four corners of the world and the 4 seasons, the north and south the strongest. The four dots the four corners of the world. The name Almaviva from the Marriage of Figaro, Count Almavivia.
