The Premier Grand Cru Classé Troplong Mondot started life as Domaine de Mondot, its
wine one of the most sought-after in Saint-Émilion. French peer and lawyer of note,
Raymond Troplong, purchased the estate in 1850 and hence the name we have today.
It has been in the hands of the Valette family since 1936.
These days there is no more
machine harvesting, yields are reduced and fastidious sorting has become a priority,
along with temperature-controlled vats and a higher percentage of new French oak.
With its very good terroir and vastly improved methodology, Troplong Mondot finds
itself on a roll and one of the Right Bank’s star performers, the wines intense and
opulent while remaining light on their feet.
