DEVIL'S STAIRCASE
There's a little Devil in all of us. The Devil's Staircase takes the willing down into the realm of decadence and bacchanalian delights. Here everything is pleasure spiced up with a dash of naughtiness. The unrelenting environment tortures the vines whose twisted limbs produce a wine worthy of absolution. These wines are sinfully succulent and devilishly good. The Devil's Staircase grapes were grown in Rockburn's very own Gibbston and Parkburn Vineyards and the name is inspired by the winding road resembling a devilish decent leading from Queenstown to Kingston, along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The grapes were handpicked and wines are produced by multi award winning winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis.

Malcolm Francis
Four years studying Microbiology at the University of Otago drove Malcolm into a life of wine, beginning in Marlborough in 2000, sojourning at Lincoln University for a year and culminating in Central Otago. Malcolm comes into the Rockburn/ Devil's Staircase fold from his four-year tenure as Felton Road Wines’ Assistant Winemaker. His time there was devoted to learning about and making fine Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay and included three vintages working in Oregon, USA. His passion for wine is now one of the driving forces behind the future direction of Rockburn’s wine portfolio.
