- Unexpected cancellation of a large shipment to China
-We - and ultimately you - are the beneficiaries
-This is an Olympic-level aged red
-An unbelievable score for anyone who is into top-tier Hawkes Bay Cabernet blends.
One of Hawkes Bay’s true originals, Brookfields’ Peter Robertson has long been a disciple of the Red Arts with an uncompromising vision. His storied career stretches back to the 1970s and his time working with legendary winemaking pioneer Tom McDonald. Over the subsequent period, Peter has become something of a legend himself, his skills honed over almost five decades of turning out extraordinary gems. From such a lengthy and intimate relationship with one place, the man knows his terroir inside out.
The recent devastation felt throughout the Bay courtesy of Cyclone Gabriel had a huge impact on Brookfields, and it has taken Peter time and resilience to climb back out of the resulting chaos. But he has done so, restoring order to his vineyards and winery, only to run into yet another hurdle with the unexpected cancellation of a large shipment to China, where a previously reliable customer has disappeared without trace.
Having a long and deep regard for Peter, and having watched his resolute recovery from the challenges of Gabriel, we were determined to extend a hand and help him deal with this twist in fortunes. While he has been caught out by this unexpected turn of events, we - and ultimately you - are the beneficiaries. This is an Olympic-level aged red and an unbelievable score for anyone who is into top-tier Hawkes Bay Cabernet blends. Relabelled and repurposed, this superb wine is yours for a song, so get singing and buy yourself a case!

BROOKFIELDS
At Glengarry we've been stocking Brookfields wines for almost three decades, for the very good reason (apart from the fact that owner-winemaker Peter Robertson is a superbly generous and lovely man) that, year after year, regardless of vintage variables, the wines are consistently up there and always exceptional value for money.
Biochemistry graduate Peter arrived in Hawkes Bay from Otago in the early 1970s, where he proceeded to work at the McWilliams winery with the legendary Tom McDonald. In 1977 Peter purchased the Brookfields winery and redirected its focus towards producing fine table wines. Within a decade he had firmly established Brookfields as one of Hawkes Bay’s premier wineries.
The man himself puts it thus: ‘Our philosophy is to produce fruit-driven, balanced wines that are enjoyable in their youth, have the potential to mature and are, above all, good with food. We are currently planting new varietal clones with the aim of improving the quality of the yields, because I believe that great wines are made from superior fruit.’
With no signs of taking the foot off the pedal, then, Brookfields’ impressively conceived wine ranges continue to set a benchmark within Hawkes Bay’s winemaking community.
