FAUSTINO
Faustino has been a significant part of Riojan history since its founding in 1861. Now in its fourth generation, the company remains firmly in the hands of the Familia Martínez Zabala. Faustino has earned international prestige for its dedication to crafting and aging some of the finest wines available.
Crossing the doors of Bodegas Faustino is like stepping into the history of wine, with its immense barrel hall and spectacular bottle aging cellars, where more than nine million bottles are at rest. Centuries-old tradition blends here with state of the art facilities to create Rioja´s leading Gran Reservas. With the company selling to over 140 countries, Faustino I is the most widely purchased DOCa Rioja Gran Reserva in the world.
Faustino is one of the largest vineyard owners in the DOCa Rioja wine region, with 700 hectares under its ownership. The vineyards are spread across all three sub-regions of Rioja: Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta, and Rioja Oriental. The land of Rioja Alavesa offers exceptional qualities; a chalky-clay soil and an optimum microclimate confer unbeatable quality to the Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo and Viura varieties that grow there.
A healthy respect for Nature is one of the pillars on which the philosophy of the winery is based. In recent years, they have incorporated new, environmentally-friendly grape growing practices to make their vineyards increasingly sustainable.
In the 1950s, when Don Julio Faustino Martínez launched the Faustino brand internationally, he combined his two passions, wine and art, as a tribute to his father, Don Faustino Martínez Pérez de Albéniz. One of the most iconic elements of the Faustino brands launch was the use of a portrait by Rembrandt.
