FONSECA

Founded in 1815, Fonseca is in the very top echelon of Port houses, with the legendary 1840 (the first sold under the Fonseca name) marking the start of a stream of magnificent vintages that continue to this day. They are the only Port house to have four 100-point wines, with the 1927, 1948, 1977 and 1994.

The style of the house is unmistakeably exotic and complex. They are ‘the Pomerol of Vintage Port’ according to James Suckling, with a ‘striking fleshiness and powerful richness when young, but they retain that youthfulness for decades.’ Fonseca is also a pioneer of organic and sustainable viticulture within the Douro.
