STARBOROUGH
Starborough is a family owned and operated Marlborough winery. William Jones set sail from England for New Zealand in 1864 in search of gold on the West Coast. Riches eluded him and he decided to return to his skill in farming, purchasing virgin land in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough. His love of the land has been passed down through four generations of Jone's. In the years since the family have expanded their land ownership and purchased the long established Starborough homestead property in the Awatere Valley.
Today, the Jones family run 130 hectares of vineyards in three unique blocks; one on the southern bank of the Awatere Valley, one on the lower Dashwood and one on the Wairau Valley.
Starborough is committed to producing wines which express their unique vineyards, as well as capturing the best of the Marlborough flavours. Starborough wines currently includes Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
James Jones, founder of Starborough wines and great grandson of pioneer William Jones believes attention to detail in the vineyard is vital to producing wines of great quality, concentration and integrity. With fourth generation knowledge of the land, Starborough produces wines with a deep sense of place.
"We think of ourselves as Sons of The Soil, just as our great grandfather was. We work hands-on to nurture our Wairau and Awatere Valley vineyards, knowing the real gold was in the land all along''.
