Allende is located in Briones, and is a producer that seems to be able to integrate tradition with modernity to great effect. The wines are vineyard based (unusual for the region) and aged in French oak, as opposed to the more usual American. A fresh, pure, intense red of real class.95/100 Vinous (all new French oak) Deep, bright-rimmed ruby-red. Expansive, oak-spiced blackberry and blueberry aromas pick up cola, woodsmoke and vanilla qualities with air. Lush, weighty and seamless on the palate, showing impressive focus and spicy thrust to its deeply concentrated dark fruit preserve, cherry-vanilla, mocha and spicecake flavors. Utterly stains the palate without showing any excess weight. Finishes sweet, round and extremely long, with smooth tannins, a repeating blue fruit note and a touch of dark chocolate. Drink 2019-2030
