The name was inspired by the slight banana flavour in the beer from the Belgian style yeast that is used. What eats bananas? A monkey. What is an epic monkey? A gorilla. What is an epic gorilla? King Kong. Hence the name for this big beer. Different from the normal big hoppy IPA whereas this beer that only uses a small amount of Citra hops, but all the flavour comes from the yeast fermentation, and some alcohol sweetness. Surprisingly easy to drink for an 8% beer.
