Amaretto
Sweet and almond-flavoured is an all time dessert favourite. Traditionally Italian, it is made from a base of apricot pits and/or almonds. Amaretto translates to ‘bitter’ in Italian, referring to flavours of drupe kernel. However, it is this bitterness that enhances the flavours of the final product. Disaronno is one of the most famous and original Amaretto brands, in fact, it was marketed as ‘amaretto’ (just amaretto) until the turn of the new Millennium. Amaretto is the liqueur behind almond cookie, New York cheesecake, amaretto cake and almond biscotti.
