CHATEAU FILHOT
Located in Sauternes, Filhot dates back to the mid-1600s, with the château itself completed in 1709 by Romain de Filhot on one of the most attractive sites in Bordeaux.
Since 1974, the Second Cru Classé Château Filhot has been managed by Count de Vaucelles and his son Gabriel, with the property undergoing a comprehensive restoration programme in 1995. The winemaking facilities were modernised, the old vinification replaced with temperature-controlled, stainless vats.
The large 62-hectare gravel-based vineyard is planted in 60% Semillon, 36% Sauvignon Blanc and 4% Muscadelle. The wines are normally on the lighter side, refreshing in style, but they are, too, increasingly well-made and reasonably priced.
