Hungary
Viticulture in Hungary has been said to date back around two thousand years and with popularity peaking in Europe around the 16th century for these hungarian 'treasures', wine from Hungary was all the rage in the royal courts. Fast forward a few centuries and there are now around 22 Hungarian wine regions with possibly the most renown of all Hungarian wine regions being Tokaj, where excellent sweet dessert wines and full-bodied whites are produced. The honey-like aszú dessert wine, considered to be among the first three of the best wines in the world, brought fame to this wine growing territory. If you want to know something about the quality of a Hungarian wine, look for "minöségibor" or "különleges minöségibor" which means quality or premium quality wine; this can be compared to the French quality control of "appellation controlée".
