Gamay
This grape variety from Beaujolais is known for its easy style drinking wines it produces, with the Beujolais Nouveau being possibly one of the more well known wines in this category. The grape is so called due to the belief that it was first discovered in the village of Gamay, in France. Generally, Gamay based wines are light, fruity and often best suited to early drinking. Varietal characteristics: fresh, floral, sour cherry, strawberry, fruity, crushed raspberries.
