Sangiovese
Sangiovese is one of Italy's indigenous varieties and is perhaps better known to be the main partner in the much loved Chianti wine. From the vitis vinifera vine species, this varietal can come in many forms with light to full-bodies wines. This is the most widely grown grape in Italy, but it is also grown in Australia and California, plus in limited quantities in the warmer regions of New Zealand. This has excellent aging potential if grown well. Varietal characteristics: Morello cherries, spice, leather, earthy, raspberry, plum, mulberry, coffee, dried herb.
