Peregrine’s wines are named in honour of New Zealand’s endemic falcon (Karearea in Maori), and a natural extension of the McLachlan family’s passion for the land is Peregrine’s dedication to help protect some of New Zealand’s rarest native birds. With hands-on involvment in some of this country's most successful preservation programs, Peregrine is proud to support and work alongside the Wingspan Trust and the Department of Conservation.
PEREGRINE
Peregrine is a family winery renowned for crafting premium Pinot Noir, and a range of aromatic white wines. It is a brand that has, since its first vintage in 1998, gained a reputation both domestically and internationally as one of New Zealand’s iconic wine brands. The quest for outstanding Central Otago wine begins in the three distinct sub-regions from which we draw our fruit: Bendigo, Pisa and Gibbston, where our landmark winery rises up amongst rugged rock reefs and ancient hills.
Owned and managed by Lindsay and his son Fraser, the McLachlan’s are actively involved in all aspects of Peregrine’s business from strategic management to winemaking and grape growing. Taking a 'hands on' approach to winemaking, the family strive to produce wines that embody the absolute best of Central Otago while enhancing the land from which they come.
Organic and biodynamic farming are fundamental to every level of viticulture at Peregrine. The grape growing philosophy at our estate vineyards has been based on organic principles since 2009, with organic certification achieved in 2012. Since 2016 we have been undertaking biodynamic practices, integrating crop and livestock farming at our Bendigo Estate with our viticultural program, in a holistic approach, recently achieving Biodynamic certification with Demeter.
The vintner's art lies in capturing the essence of a place and time. Beginning with the vine itself, we believe the land speaks more clearly, the closer we listen.
