Solera 1842 and Don Gonzalo are a pair, Solera 1842 the drier of the two. Very old labels of Solera 1842 do say Rich sweet on the label, this has since been replaced to only mention Oloroso. Made from Palomino grapes, theres 8-10% of sweet very old Pedro Ximnez added which results in 45-50g/l. The resulting wine actually appears off dry, rather than sweet. Dark chocolates, fruit liqueur and roasted almonds arise to greet you, the palate intense concentrated and complex is of raisins, figs and oaky, vinous/spirituous characters. Big enough for big game, strong cheese and late nights with the sound off.
