Extortionate and thats not saying enough. This is as good as Palo Cortado gets, its incredible. This wine begins its life as a Fino under a veil of flor, but changes its mind and the flor disappears. The remaining wine is then aged oxidatively, like an Olorosso does. Palo Cortados have characters similar to Amontillado and Oloroso. The grapes for this wine come from very old vines planted in the famous sherry area of Pago Macharnudo Alto. There are 7 butts in this solera, the youngest criadera is 25 years old and the average age 50 years. This is the rarest of all the rare sherries from Valdespino. 99/100 Robert Parker | 92/100 Wine Spectator
